Located on the site of the historic Pig & Whistle motel, this 63 unit Affordable Housing development in West Denver catalyzed the eventual significant redevelopment of the West Colfax corridor. The design utilizes sloped grade to conceal a sub-grade parking garage. Above the garage, the residential building is broken up into 4 primary masses, mitigating the project’s scale and in the process creating a series of secure courtyards and outdoor spaces for the community. The final building in a series of three affordable housing projects located on Morrison Road. The 4-story building with elevators contains 50 family units and distinguishes itself from its sister projects Paloma Villas I & II by using a striking brightly colored exterior design. Curved parapets evoke a modern mission style and adobe yellow stucco sprinkled with blue tilework create a distinctive southwestern flair. This project was one of the first to use pervious asphalt for stormwater management in Denver.

A 50-unit project designed to create modern, age-appropriate interior and exterior spaces that enhance the vitality, health, and quality of life of its Senior residents.  The project respects and honors the life journey of the residents and demonstrates that “affordable” housing can be an attractive, stabilizing, value-added asset for the community. The project successfully mediates its two contexts, the traditional neighborhood to the north and the Regatta Plaza TOD to the south. The design iconography borrows heavily from the historic Nile Mile House and Smoky Hill Trail.

Designed to replace some of the affordable housing lost in the 2013 floods, this 114 unit project in collaboration with Solvera and Longmont Housing Authority is a high quality sustainable development that fills the dire need for new affordable family housing in Longmont. A large playground is incorporated into the stormwater management area of the project. The 3-story walkup buildings utilize variations of warm brick and stucco colors to create interest.

We won a competitive process to secure this comprehensive ‘gut’ renovation of Hirschfeld Towers. The remodeled building includes 209 senior and disabled apartments. The project included exterior skin improvements, and a new piano shaped addition to the ground floor which created a new lobby, offices, and a banquet hall. The highly sustainable project included one of the largest residential geothermal systems in the country.

Located in Durango, this 50 unit affordable housing project in collaboration with Solvera and the Regional Housing Alliance of La Plata County is designed in a Colorado style using Corten steel and heavy timber elements. The building opens to a large outdoor amenity area that will eventually be bookended by the master planned phase 2 building. Along with the VOA Senior Housing to the south, together the two Lumien buildings will create a strong sense of community by encircling a safe courtyard where seniors, adults, & children can play and congregate.

Located in the heart of the River North Arts District, this wrap style project looks out onto the Platte River and the panorama of the Downtown Denver skyline. A ‘wooden cube’ anchors the intersection of 31st and Brighton, while a series of undulating exposed metal balconies animate the facade along the river. The building design utilizes classic RiNo motifs like recycled and repurposed metals, industrial gratings, corrugated metal, blonde brick, and gabion walls to fit the cool gritty vibe that the neighborhood embodies. Large format murals grace the entry facade and parking garage facade making the building an important part of the RiNo mural scene.
