What are your hobbies?

Growing up in Illinois we would visit some of the small ski resorts in Wisconsin but then in 8th grade I came to Colorado to visit family and had a chance to ski at Keystone. That started a love affair with the Colorado mountains that compelled me to move here for graduate school many years later. If I were to be frank, the main reason why I chose CU Denver for grad school was the access to skiing! I really enjoy the Rockies all year round. We hike and camp in the summer and ski and snowboard in the winter.  Teaching my children how to ski and snowboard has been the best!

What is the most interesting place you have traveled

In grad school I got a chance to spend a summer in Europe. We started in Amsterdam, made our way to south of France, and squeezed in a trip to Barcelona. The beauty of Amsterdam’s radiating canals and rich architectural history exhilarated me.  The city of Barcelona has an alluring way of life and it’s the epicenter of the great Architect Antonio Gaudi’s work. I visited Sagrada Familia which is the longest ongoing construction project in the world and was amazed to see construction techniques spanning two centuries being used in the same building. I also got to experience Park Guell which harmonizes nature and architecture like no other space.

What is your first memory of being interested in Architecture as a career?

My first experience in Architecture was helping my high school drafting teacher design and creating permit documents for a single-family home. From that moment on I was fascinated with the process of design and construction. There was a lot of development going on in my town at that time and I would impulsively visit construction sites and absorb as much as I could while watching the building process. That curiosity and wonder associated with the construction process has remained with me to this day.

What is your favorite music album?

When I was growing up, the adults in my life liked Disco, which I really did not appreciate. Then I went to my first concert with my brother to see The Cure. Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me was their big hit and it got me hooked onto the Indie and Post Punk music genres. But the album that really solidified my musical taste was Doolittle by Pixies. Every track on that album is strong, and listening to that album was a defining moment in my musical journey.
